Even today, sauna still has its strong impact for both physical and mental wellness. Sauna Savu is a sensitive mixture of Finnish vernacular architecture and Scandinavian contemporary design. Its charred surface, scent of tar and smoke, use of light and simplicity take one's mind to the very origins of sauna, while being structurally still modern and innovative. The structure of Sauna Savu is made out of planks and set on fire after construction. Interior surfaces of the sauna are washed instantly after completing the burning process. Burning the surface is an ancient way to protect wood that has being widely forgotten. This is both a way to make the structure durable against nature conditions but also gives the whole building its strong character.
