LITHUANIAN-HUNGARIAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT ON THE MUTUAL REPRESENTATION BY THEIR DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATIONS AND CONSULAR POSTS IN PROCESSING OF SCHENGEN VISAS WAS SIGNED DURING THE VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF HUNGARY

On November 20, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary Ferenc Gyurcsány paid an official visit to the Republic of Lithuania. The meetings between Mr. Gyurcsány and the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas and Speaker of Parliament Viktoras Muntianas were held during the visit.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mr. Petras Vaitiekūnas and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Mr. László Szőke signed Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on the mutual representation by their diplomatic representations and consular posts in processing visas. According to this Agreement, the countries will represent each other in processing Schengen visas after Lithuania and Hungary join Schengen. The list of countries where Lithuania and Hungary will represent each other will be designated after the mentioned Agreement enters into force.

Lithuanian-Hungarian bilateral relations, issues of regional cooperation and European agenda, such as energy and neighbourhood policy, were discussed during the meetings of Prime Minister Gyurcsány with Lithuanian officials.

It should be underlined that the President of Lithuania and Hungarian Prime Minister said that the two states maintained good bilateral relations and close cooperation ties on the international level. The Prime Minister of Hungary Mr. Ferenc Gyurcsany noted that he saw plenty of possibilities to expand and deepen cooperation between Lithuania and Hungary.

According to the President Adamkus, cooperation between Vishegrad group and the Baltic States could be very perspective through active participation in the EU processes.
