Lithuanian Ambassador presents her letters of credence to President of Serbia

On 26 October in Belgrade, the Ambassador of Lithuania Rasa Kairienė presented letters of credence to the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić.  Following the ceremony, the President and the Ambassador had a conversation. The officials discussed issues relating to international politics and the Western Balkans, multilateral and bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Serbia.

The President highlighted Serbia’s strategic goal of joining the EU and strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador said that Lithuania supported the EU enlargement process. She voiced support for Serbia’s aim of opening negotiations on the EU membership and advancing the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, and also stressed the importance of making progress in meeting accession criteria and implementing reforms.

The Ambassador of Lithuania Kairienė, who resides in Hungary, also met with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.

Lithuania and Serbia (the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) established diplomatic relations on 22 December 2000.
