LITHUANIA JOINS THE SCHENGEN AREA
The Council of the European Union confirmed at its meeting on 6 December 2007 that Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czeck Republic, Hungary, Malta, Slovenia, Poland and Slovakia become a part of the Schengen Area and will start full implementation of the Schengen acquis from 21 December 2007.
The membership in the Schengen Area is a major achievement of Lithuanian internal and foreign policy. Inter alia, it significantly changes procedure of application for visas to enter Lithuania.
