Lithuania and its partners successfully implemented the Twinning project in Serbia
Lithuanian State Border Guard Authority officers together with Swedish partners successfully completed the EU Twinning Programme project „Support to preparation for participation in EUROSUR network and EURODAC system“.
The main objective of the project is to prepare Serbia in the field of justice and home affairs for future accession to the European Union. The project focused on the introduction of an EU-compatible fingerprint system for asylum seekers and irregular migrants and on the harmonisation of Serbia's border surveillance capabilities with EU and European Border and Coast Guard Agency standards. As a junior project partner Lithuanian institution was responsible for the implementation of the EUROSUR component. The main objective of this component is to help the Serbian authorities prepare to join and participate in the EUROSUR system.
On May 25th the official project closing ceremony was held in Belgrade with participation of the representatives from Serbian and project implementing institutions at which Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Vytautas Pinkus gave a welcoming speech.
In total Lithuania has implemented over 120 Twinning projects ,11 of them in Serbia.
