International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Budapest
On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Ambassador Vytautas Pinkus and Minister Plenipotentiary Miglė Jankauskienė participated in the commemoration events held on January 27th at the Holocaust Memorial Center in Budapest.
An exhibition “Ghettos Beyond Budapest – ....none of them will be spared here" was opened at the Budapest Memorial Holocaust Center and in the evening a concert was performed by a French violinist Isabel Durin.
The survivors of the Holocaust, representatives of Hungarian institutions, members of diplomatic missions and non-governmental organizations gathered to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. Dr. Gergely Gulyás, Head of Prime Minister’s Office, among other speakers, addressed the commemorators, according to the traditions, the event was closed by the Kaddish prayer and lightening of the candles of remembrance at the Memorial Wall of Victims.
Nearly two decades ago, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 an annual day of commemoration for its member states, in honor of the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism.
