      Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania has opened the registration to the Summer Internship Program. This program offers a practical opportunity for students to gain professional knowledge of their chosen field, learn or improve Lithuanian language skills and get to know the modern Lithuania. Students who successfully end their internship and defend the final project are awarded 6 academic credits (ECTS).

      Today Lithuanian nation marks the anniversary of accession to NATO – the strongest security alliance. Eleven years ago, on 29 March 2004, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas, together with the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia presented the ratification instruments of the Washington Treaty to the U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell. On this historic day, Lithuania became a full-fledged member of NATO and entered a common European security structure, more profoundly than ever before in it‘s history of thousand years.

    • Lithuanian and Australian Foreign Ministers discuss bilateral relations and key international policy issues Added2015.03.23

      At the meeting in Canberra on 23 March with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius informed her about Lithuania’s preparations and implementation of the Action Plan for joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). “Membership in OECD is the most important goal for Lithuania now. I am glad to receive  good evaluation from the Australian colleagues of Lithuania’s efforts to start accession procedures to OECD,” said the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy.

      In the view of announced signature of so-called “treaty” High Representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini stated that it “clearly violates Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, principles of international law and the international commitments taken by the Russian Federation, including the 12 August 2008 Agreement and its Implementing Measures of 8 September 2008 and has no legal standing”.       At the General Affairs Council meeting on 17 March in Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, emphasised the importance of a unified and strong EU policy stance towards Russia. “Russia has openly admitted it has annexed Crimea. Russia fails to comply substantially with the Minsk agreements. For these reasons, the EU should keep up the pressure on Russia. We have to extend the existing sanctions and consider new sanctions if the situation keeps deteriorating,” stressed the Lithuanian Foreign Minister.

      At the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on 16 March in Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, speaking about the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit on 21-22 May 2015, noted that it was important to determine a strategic direction for Eastern Partnership and take a further step forward from the Warsaw and Vilnius Summits. “We need to send a clear and strategic political signal to our Eastern neighbours that the EU remains ambitious and committed to fulfilling its obligations. The Eastern Partnership countries have to choose their own path towards development and it has to be defended. We cannot allow Russia to influence our policies,” said the Lithuanian Foreign Minister.

      At the bilateral meeting on 10 March in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius expressed his gratitude to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson for his country’s courageous action – recognition of Lithuania’s independence on 11 February 1991.  In June,  this event will be commemorated in Vilnius by civic campaign “Thank You, Iceland”.
